I have been crafting most of my life. I enjoy crocheting, floral design, paper crafts, jewelry making, painting, designing, sewing, plastic canvas, gift baskets, candy arrangements and embroidery. I also like to dabble in cake decorating from time to time.
I hope that you will enjoy your visit with Mrs D's Craft Cottage I know I enjoy sharing my passions with you.
Wow what a great time I had making these angels. Although I'm kinda over making Christmas crafts and want to move on to Valentine's Day a friend asked me if I would make some. I made a few Christmas themed ones but the rest are really cool colors.
I just used an old cd that I had to cut out the circles, sewed them together. I used a heart stencil for the wings, cut 2 out from felt and hand stitched them together. What a fun project. I want to make more but really want to start Valentine's :)
It's been a crazy time here the last few weeks. I"m not even really sure what my time has been spent on :/ I had a small table for the craft shows.
I know it's these crazy kids of mine :) not to mention my youngest son was born on Dec 13 so right in the middle of holiday preparing I need to think about his birthday party.

Are you becoming who you were made to be?
I have been following Sandi for a few months now and I'm excited to read her new book. Sandi is a real person doing real things. She does not hold back and is not fake.
I look forward to reading her book and believing that I can be who God created me to be. I don't have to worry about anything or anyone else of this world. No more doubting and listening to negative talk. I stand with the positive people. :)
I have believed too many lies that myself and others have said about me. I am full of power that I haven't even tapped into by the grace of God.
I believe all things are possible with God when we are obedient.

My friend at the Enchanted Florist Shop called today S.O.S. it was my pleasure to go help her.
I have been working in a flower shop since I was in my early 20's in NJ then in Maine and now in Florida. I always seem to find a shop that I can call home no matter what state I am in :)
There is nothing like staying up till 2am sometimes just to get the orders out.
I plan to write a book called "The Proverbial Life" that gives present day advice using the Book of Proverbs.
As I studied it over the years, I was surprised how much it still applies to today. I want to share what I have learned and ask that you do the same. Eventually, I may use this material for the book.
Other than Jesus, its author Solomon, was the wisest and richest man who ever lived. When God made him King of Israel and asked what he wanted from Him in a dream (1 Kings 3:5). Solomon asked for wisdom...apparently because he was overwhelmed by the tasks of governing the Jews, His Chosen People; and rightly so considering how difficult they were for even God to deal with.
How many of us would have said that? Most of us would say riches, death to our enemies, a super-human body, the ability to fly, live forever, or better yet, a corvette The fact that he answered rightly, shows that God knew what He was doing.
So God gave us this book as a guide for all our problems. Truths that stand the test of time. Truths that will protect you, bless you, and help you sin less, make wise decisions, and in the end, get closer to God.
DAY 1: Proverbs 1:1-2 "The proverbs of Solomon, King David’s son, from Israel: Their purpose is to teach wisdom and discipline, to help one understand wise sayings."
The purpose of Proverbs is to give you the ability to understand, experience to retain knowledge and apply good judgment necessary for the proper training and behavior needed to live a life of purpose and glory to God.
In short, it's here to help you keep from screwing up your life and the lives of those around you.
But the Proverbs aren't enough in themselves, you also need the Author to help you discern their meaning. There are spiritual truths enclosed that you simply are not going to "get" without His help (1 Corinthians 2:14).
Feel free to comment and disagree. I don't have all the answers but I know enough to get this started.
1 Kings 3:5..."At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, "Ask for whatever you want me to give you."
1 Corinthians 2:14: "The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit."
His Kingdom Come is so excited to announce the
preparations are done and we are ready to launch
Take Me Deeper™ is a free weekly journey at His Kingdom Come
beginning Friday, January 2 2015. Take Me Deeper™ will be a weekly devotional
and verse that will prompt us to spending time in His word. It is about each of
us encouraging, sharing and studying the word.
Each week you will get the opportunity to translate bible
study into art- mixed media, a journal, a photograph, or a digital page, poem,
music. Every Friday HKC will post a verse, devotional, worship video and
examples of how we interpreted the bible study in our art. We pray that
these 52 weeks will change how you approach, engage and apply God’s word in
your life and art. At the end of the year regardless of how many weeks you
participated, you will have created a legacy of the faith walk. This legacy
will show you how God has moved in your life!
Who
can join?
We welcome anyone who wants to take their faith walk deeper
into understanding God’s Word and deeper into their creativity. We will begin
January 2, but you can join at any time during the year. You can’t be “behind”
since this is about your personal journey with God and your creativity. The
community at His Kingdom Come will walk with you, support and encourage you!
Where
will the devotionals be?
Posts will be on the HKC site and on the HKC Facebook Page.
Where
can I share and discuss my preferred art medium?
Discussions will be across all the art mediums, so feel free
to check out each art group for ideas, questions, suggestions and creative
ideas.
So
how do I start?
First, become a member of His Kingdom Come. It is free and
the first step in accessing all the creativity on the site. Beginning December
2014, HKC will have suggestions for making a journal, decorating a journal,
what journal to use, and supplies to gather.
If
I am doing other projects, can I incorporate them into Take Me Deeper?
Yes, if you are part of the Journaling Bible community, or
any other art community or project, you can mesh all the projects together.
Take Me Deeper will assist you in reading your bible, understanding God’s word,
and helping you learn how to express your God-given creativity.
What
about One Little Word or My One Word? How does that fit into this process?
So glad you asked! Part of Take me deeper will be the
opportunity to participate in Logos365™- finding the word God gives you to
focus on for an entire year. Logos365™ will be a component of Take Me
Deeper. We will offer a worksheet for
you to use to discover your logos365™, discussions about how to identify your
logos365™ and how to live your logos365™ out through the year. Then, monthly
Logos365™ prompts will initiate discussions about how you are doing living your
word.

One of the things I look for at thrift stores are old cookbooks. While strolling through The Southern Heritage Cakes Cookbook from 1983, which I'm not sure I want to call that old because I was graduating high school about that time, I found a recipe for Scripture Cake.
I did a little research and found that this is how young ladies would learn the scripture and remember the recipe. The Pray Cook Blog has a recipe for the Scripture Cake. Below is a pic of their cake and a link for you to get the recipe. :)
Scripture cake is also known as “Bible Cake”, “Scriptural Cake” and “Old Testament Cake” and was extremely popular in the latter part of the nineteenth century, especially in the southern Appalachians. The cake was meant as a way to teach young girls baking and Bible verses. The cake was sweet to eat, and a chance to modestly exhibit knowledge of the Bible. It was fun in the form of an early trivia game, and a great dish to take to a church supper. The original recipe didn’t include the ingredients only the amount next to the scripture. Mom and I recently used this recipe as part of a devotional we presented to our Community Bible Study leaders. It was fun, filled with scripture with a very tasty ending!
I have been hitting the thrift stores and boy is that fun.
This was one of my first finds. It was in good condition and could probably be used the way it is. BUT..... :)
This is what we used for pens and pencils on the counter in our kitchen. So I decided to make my new find the new pencil holder.
I painted it with some blue chalk paint then decoupaged a piece of card stock to the front. I love cookie cutters and these were sitting a a container where I couldn't see them. Now I can see them every day. Added a little more bling and it's done.
